The complexity of modern rail vehicles calls for the development of individual fire protection concepts, as the risks in rail vehicles are very different from those found in building fire protection. For example, overheating and short circuits in utility areas or in the braking system can start a fire. Vandalism and arson in the passenger area are factors which must be taken into consideration. Consequently, technical fire protection is becoming increasingly important. A comprehensive protection concept is therefore implemented on the basis of a risk analysis which has already been conducted and a fire protection solution is developed by defining protection objectives.
